Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony BMG Music Entertainment, assumed responsibility in 2005 for the preservation and ongoing availability of recordings from the archives of Sony BMG — including Barbra Streisand's record label, Columbia Records.
In October 2013, Legacy released new CDs they titled the
Classic Christmas Album series. The CDs collected holiday songs from label artists like Alabama, Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, George Jones & Tammy Wynette, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Martina McBride, Barbra Streisand, and Andy Williams.
Streisand's Classic Christmas Album contained previously released material, culled from her classic 1967 Christmas Album and her 2001 album of holiday material, Christmas Memories.
Fans should note that there are two versions of Barbra's Classic Christmas Album they may run across:
- The
October 8, 2013 CD has 16 tracks; the cover is slightly differently colored; there is no photo on the back cover.
Order from Amazon.com. It also has a different catalog number: 88883 76933 2 5.
Please reference the photo below of this CD.
- The December 5, 2013 iTunes version has 15 tracks; the songs and the song-sequence were handpicked by Miss Streisand herself (see link above).
- The October 7, 2014 CD (now listed at Amazon as “New Master”) contained the newly sequenced songs from the December 5th version. Streisand's personal involvement yielded a more vibrant red color on the cover and a very special back cover photo from her personal collection (see link above).
