To promote her new album,
Love is the Answer, Barbra Streisand sang a one-night-only gig at New York's famed jazz club The Village Vanguard. The evening of September 26, 2009 was recorded by Columbia Records and videotaped as a T.V. special, too. When Columbia released Barbra's intimate club show, they bundled it as a DVD/CD combo pack.
Dave Reitzas, who recorded and mixed the live sound told MixOnline that he used a Audio-Technica AE5400 handheld condenser mic for Streisand's vocals in the club. The mic's wire ran from inside the club to the All Mobile truck outside. In these days of wireless mics, using a wired one was actually “part of re-creating the 1960s ambience of the club,” said Jim Flynn, who provided the recording equipment for the evening.
To promote the DVD/CD, Barbra's co-director, Richard Jay-Alexander, appeared on the cable shopping channel QVC with host Shawn Killinger. QVC offered the DVD-only, as well as the DVD/CD package, which included a bonus Streisand poster from the 1960s at the Bon Soir.
Almost a year after Columbia released the DVD/CD album, Live at the Village Vanguard
aired across America on PBS stations.
