Barbra Streisand and husband Elliott Gould arrived in Atlanta early Saturday morning, August 6th to prepare for the third concert of her four-concert tour.
Comic and concert producer Alan King told The Atlanta Constitution, “I'm sure that anyone who has ever been part of the audience at the Atlanta Stadium won't even recognize the stadium after we get through with it.”
King explained that the theater his staff built for the tour will be sitting on the baseball diamond. “There will be a large screen, curtains supported by cranes enclosing the area we're playing to. Plus, there will be a stage and runways coming out to the front row of the audience.”
“I've never played in a football or baseball stadium before,” Barbra told the newspaper. “I think it will be a very gratifying experience. My manager once attended a concert in Atlanta and found the audience very responsive and with an exciting atmosphere.”
King wrapped up the interview, saying “She'll be on second base working the runway towards home plate. If she balks, they'll send a runner from third.”
The Atlanta tickets were priced at $12.50, $10.00, $7.50, $5.00, and $3.50.
The show began fifty minutes late because of rain. Barbra started the show in a raincoat with an umbrella. Eventually she removed the coat, revealing her sparkling black evening gown.
Variety
reported she sold $78,000-plus in tickets to 11,273 fans in Atlanta.
